This design was part of a Percent For Art proposal for a school library.
Some of the thoughts behind the design:
-- Higher education is a time of enlightenment.
-- There are social interactions that expand life experiences, and
establish important networking opportunities as well.
-- The library is, in a certain sense, the enlightenment “heart and soul” on campus.
Every field of study requires library research.
-- The enlightenment of the mind through higher education is abstractly represented by placing an “opening flower” form on a “life path” line.
-- The enlightenment of the mind through education is a slow process, not visibly perceivable. But like bud blossoming, with time,
it manifests itself with a distinct clarity of beauty and dignity.
